National Latino AIDS Awareness Day 2008
October 15, 2008

logo

October 15, 2008 marks the sixth annual observance of National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD). The purpose of this day is to increase awareness of HIV/AIDS within the Latino community.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2006 HIV/AIDS surveillance report, 18 percent of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses in the United States occurred within the Latino community. The theme of this year's NLAAD is "United we can: HIV/AIDS stops here. Prevention starts with us." which emphasizes the importance of HIV testing, prevention, education, research, treatment, and raising HIV/AIDS awareness in the Latino community.

The links on this page provide information about NLAAD, including AIDSinfo resources and other resources on treatment, prevention, and research for the Latino community.
