About Our Fellowships
The Neuro-Oncology Branch of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are dedicated to supporting the training of neurosurgeons, medical oncologists and neurologists who plan an academic career in neuro-oncology. Applicants with M.D. degrees are candidates for this research fellowship. A total of 3 new trainees will be selected each year.
Neuro-oncology fellows will be involved in well-supervised clinical, translational and/or basic research activities over a two or three-year period. A program tailored to the needs of each individual candidate will be devised in order to ensure an optimal training experience. The program includes participation in the development and implementation of phase I and phase II clinical trials for novel primary brain tumor therapeutics and/or dedicated research time and training in translational and/or basic molecular biology and genetics. Trainees will participate in formal coursework in pharmacology and clinical research methodology offered by the Clinical Center at the NIH. They will gain clinical expertise in the management of brain tumor patients through participation in Brain Tumor Clinic, comprised of over 2000 patients seen annually. Fellows will attend and contribute to biweekly academic conferences, and have the opportunity to attend national scientific meetings.
In addition, fellows who complete three years of training at NIH may be eligible for the NIH-sponsored student loan repayment program.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Interested candidates should contact Teri N. Kreisl, MD via e-mail at kreislt@mail.nih.gov. Please include your CV.
