Behavioral Studies Regarding HPV and Cervical Cancer

Cervical Cancer Control in Vietnamese Women

Investigator: Victoria M. Taylor, MPH

This randomized controlled trial will evaluate the effectiveness of an outreach intervention in increasing Pap testing among never screened Vietnamese women, as well as examine the effectiveness of the intervention in improving knowledge about cervical cancer and Pap test and assess the cost-effectiveness of the intervention. 250 Vietnamese women between age 20 and 79, with no prior cervical cancer screening, will be individually randomized to either intervention or control group. The outreach intervention will include home visits, follow-up telephone calls, a video and pamphlet, and counseling and logistic assistance. Vietnamese lay community women will deliver the intervention. If successful, this study will likely be a model for other focused interventions in the future.
