Abstract: This article, from the annual resource guide that is published as a supplement to Diabetes Forecast, brings readers up-to-date on the equipment and supplies that can help patients use insulin. The author notes that these devices carry insulin through the outermost layer of skin and into fatty tissue so it can be used by the body. The author describes syringes, pumps, jet injectors, pens, and infusers; a separate section considers injection aids. Much of the information is presented in a detailed chart that lists the product name, size, name of manufacturer, needle gauge, needle size, and packaging. Additional charts list insulin pens, pen needles, and other delivery systems; insulin pumps; aids for people who are visually or physically impaired; and jet injectors. 7 tables.
