Integrative Biology Faculty
Mission Statement
High-throughput and genome-wide approaches have enabled us to collect vast amounts of intrinsically quantitative data in a variety of natural or experimental, physiological or pathological conditions. The ability to accumulate this data has far outstripped our ability to analyze it. The mission of the Integrative Biology Faculty is to promote the development of computational, physical, and mathematical approaches to extract information out of complex systems, and to develop models that describe the biological behavior of networks and sub-networks of components at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organismal levels. Bottom-up approaches that start with simpler models and progressively increase the number of components and top-down approaches that study the global responses of systems and networks to defined perturbations each help to reveal features describing the behavior and operation of biological systems. Understanding how systems and networks respond to primary and secondary pathogenetic events during carcinogenesis will help to define the critical nodes and links to explain tumor behavior and will help to identify the targets most amenable for effective therapeutic manipulations.

To accomplish this mission, the Integrative Biology Faculty seeks to promote the sharing of knowledge, information, expertise, equipment and materials among faculty members.

How To Join
NCI intramural principal investigators may join any of the Faculties/Working Groups in which they wish to participate. Although membership is intended primarily for NCI intramural principal investigators, some groups also permit other staff members to participate. Membership is also open to local NCI extramural science administrators.

Please check with the Faculty Chairperson(s) listed below if you have any questions.

Levens, David levensd@mail.nih.gov
McNally, James mcnallyj@exchange.nih.gov

To request membership in this or any NCI Intramural Program, please visit and fill out the Request for Membership Form.
