The NIH Police operate 24 hours daily. Administrative Offices operate Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Division of Police (DP) operates an Emergency Communications Center and Police patrol function that provides emergency and non-emergency response to the NIH community 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days-a-year.

Additionally, DP operates a Police Reception Desk, Room B3B17, Building 31, from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (closed weekends and holidays) that provides general administrative, reception, and referrals for the DP Primary services including, but not limited to:

• Reception and Facilitation for Contacts within the DP
• Questions concerning tickets, towing, or court information (through Traffic Section)
• Receiving/Processing/Filling After-hours Contract Work Requests
• Central Repository for Lost and Found Property
• Bicycle Registration

For after-hours assistance call the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) at 301-496-5685. A wall phone is located immediately outside the Police Reception Desk for those needing assistance after-hours.

Bicycle Registration:

Bicycles may be voluntarily registered at the Division of Police Reception Desk anytime between 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (closed holidays), located in Room B3B17, Building 31. Individuals desiring to register their bicycle(s) must present an NIH identification card and provide the brand name, model number, and serial number at the time of registration.

Emergency Blue Light Telephones:

Emergency Blue Light Telephones are located throughout the NIH campus for use in the event of an emergency. Blue Light Telephones provide direct (emergency) contact with the DP Emergency Communication Center.

Police Escort Service:

Upon request, the DP will provide employees an escort to their parked vehicle anywhere on the NIH main campus after dark (as situations permit) when the NIH shuttle buses are not operating. For Police escort, call 301-496-5685.

Obtaining Copy of Police/Accident Report:

Authorized persons desiring to obtain a copy of a Police or Accident Report may do so by calling and coordinating a signature release through the DP Reports Administrator at 301-496-9862 between 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
