MIBK IS PRODUCED AT APPROX 200 MILLION LBS/YR AND IS USED AS A CHEMICAL INTERMED; AS A SOLVENT FOR PAINTS, VARNISHES AND NITROCELLULOSE; IN DRY CLEANING PREPARATIONS; AND AS A SYNTHETIC FLAVOR ADJUVANT. MIBK ALSO HAS A HIGH ENVIRONMENTAL RELEASE (27.7 MILLION LBS.YR, WITH >98% GOING INTO THE AIR) AND IS LISTED AS A HAZARDOUS AIR POLLUTANT UNDER THE 1990 AMENDS TO THE CLEAN AIR ACT. (EXEC SUM '95)
