Visitor Information Center (VIC)
Open 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Part of the Office of Communications and Public Liaison, the visitor information center serves as an information liaison and host to the general public, students, scientist, members of Congress, those from industry or the other federal agencies, NIH employees and many more. In addition to educational tours for school groups, the center arranges special visitor programs for a wide variety of national and international groups.
Located on the NIH campus in the Natcher Conference Center, Building 45, Room 1AS-13 (accessible via the NIH campus shuttle), the center disseminates information about the history, organization and mission of the National Institutes of Health. The center also assists NIH organizations in the planning, coordinating and publicizing of ceremonies, dedications, and other special programs.
For the general public, the center offers a combination overview of the NIH and a tour of the Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center (CRC), available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11:00 a.m. Available by sign up only, please call in advance to arrange.
An overview of the NIH is available each Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m., Natcher Building (#45), Room 1AS-13. No appointment necessary.
The center is responsible for the display of posters featured on the NIH Director's bulletin boards to highlight special programs of the NIH institutes. Due to high volume, posters must be scheduled in advance.
The center offers a wide selection of NIH publications by the 27 institutes and centers that comprise the NIH; individualized information packets available by request. Maps of the NIH campus, shuttle bus and metro information also available.
