- NICHD Partners with National Council of Negro Women to Improve Children’s Health

Institute: Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)NICHD and the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) are collaborating in an effort to help children maintain a healthy weight. In late November, more than 30 NCNW “cluster leaders”—women who serve as the organization’s regional leadership—from across the country visited the NIH campus for an all-day training on conducting and teaching others how to conduct two health education programs aimed at improving food choices, increasing physical activity, and reducing screen time. These leaders will go back to their communities to deliver and disseminate the programs by teaching others how to conduct them.
The two health education programs—Energize our NCNW Families: Parent Program and NICHD’s Media-Smart Youth—are adapted from curricula offered through NIH’s We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition) program. More than 900 community sites across the United States are providing We Can! activities in their communities. More
