Peter Ghazal
Dr. Peter Ghazal joined our lab in 1986 to explore the enhancer of the immediate early 1 gene of the humen cytomegalovirus. Peter discovered the formation of a large multi-component complex on the enhancer and he identified a number of transcription factors and DNA binding proteins, most notably NF1, interacting with enhancer sequences. He established an in vitro transcription system to understand the molecular function of the enhancer. Peter left in 1988 to take a faculty position at the Scripps and returned in 1999 to his native Scotland.
Dr. Gazal is currently a Professor of Virology at the University of Edinburg (Ghazal lab)
