Researchers Convene to Prevent Noise-Induced Hearing Loss in Kids When: October 1920, 2006 Where: Cincinnati, OH Institute: National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) On October 19–20, 2006, a national conference titled “Noise-Induced Hearing Loss in Children at Work and Play,” discussed hearing safety among children and teens. The conference brought together roughly 120 participants to discuss the state of our understanding of noise-induced hearing loss in today’s youth. More than 50 basic and applied researchers, health professionals, and educators presented findings on topics including epidemiology, cellular biology, safe sound levels for portable stereo systems,elementary, middle school and high school curricula, and theoretical models for influencing behavioral change in kids.
