Gartner Overview


Gartner, Inc. (http://www.gartner.com/) is an information technology research and advisory company who works with clients to research, analyze and interpret the information technology industry: vendors, technologies and business processes. Gartner's proprietary Knowledge Map includes 900 technology and business topics. Gartner offers services in the following categories to HHS:

  • Class A - Publication of Provider-initiated Analyses. Core Research services and Gartner for IT Leaders.

    • Gartner Core Research provides access to a wide-range of IT topics. Access is provided through a portal at www.gartner.com. Users may search and browse the majority of the research archive as well as establish "alerts" to push relevant research to their email.

    • Gartner for IT Leaders (GITL) is Gartner's research and advisory service which aligns client IT roles with Gartner resources specifically tailored for role-specific requirements. GITL focuses on key roles including: Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure Operations, Security/Risk Management, Sourcing and Vendor Relationships, Business Process Improvement, Applications, Project and Portfolio Management, and Business Intelligence and Information Management. HHS IT leaders and managers maximize the value of their Gartner relationship by spending more time applying Gartner insight to their business problems.

  • Class B - Access to Customer-initiated Analyses: Gartner offers Consulting and Strategic Advisory Services.

    • Gartner's Core Consulting helps clients define key strategies, manage major technology initiatives, optimize operations and achieve high returns on their IT investments through market research services, such as trend analysis and benchmark evaluations of expenditure data. Gartner's Benchmarking products include IT Key Metrics Data, IT Leader Scorecards, IT Executive Benchmarks, and IT Custom Benchmarks, which bring insight to critical decision making through the application of powerful benchmarking methodologies backed by the world's largest independent database of IT performance metrics.

    • Strategic Advisory Services (SAS) is the direct engagement of a Gartner research analyst for knowledge-based, personal or project advisory assistance, as well as external client speaking opportunities. HHS clients benefit from this service as a relevant topic of choice by HHS is presented in detail to an audience(s) of the client's choice.

  • Class C - IT Market Research Services: Dataquest and Industry Advisory Services (IAS).

    • Dataquest delivers coverage of opportunities, issues and trends in 37 high-tech and telecom markets. Dataquest also delivers insight into effective strategies that capture data most relevant to your agency. Dataquest analysts follow how end users buy and deploy IT technology, and are able to provide clients with objective advice on emerging opportunities, expenditures and threats - as well as the underlying market data.

    • Gartner Industry Advisory Services (IAS) is a single, comprehensive research offering that includes industry focused insight, as well as expertise on fundamental IT topics. The focused industry verticals include: insurance, retail, banking, investment services, manufacturing, media, energy and utilities.

  • Class D - IT Executive Program Services: EXP, Best Practice Councils and Best Practice Groups.

    • Gartner's Executive Programs (EXP) is an exclusive, peer networking program that addresses the complex issues confronting senior IT executives. Executive Programs combines research with peer networking and advisory opportunities for HHS Chief Information Officers (CIO's), their direct reports and other senior business executives.

    • Best Practices Councils bring together senior business and IT leaders for exclusive events, multi-client research studies and ad hoc peer exchange forums. These programs allow clients to learn from the experiences of their peers and share best practices in order to solve common business problems and drive greater effectiveness.

    • Gartner offers Best Practices Groups as a customized offering, designed and priced for each individual request. The Best Practice Workgroups are designed and built for organizations and their partners who are in the midst of significant business or technology change to benefit from access to well-facilitated collaborative joint workshop sessions.
