Share a Heart Healthy Father’s Day 2008

Let’s face it; we have a vested interest in helping our dads live a long, healthy life.  So skip giving dad a neck tie this year.  Celebrate this Father’s Day with your dad, grandfather, uncle, or special man in your life by sharing the heart healthy gifts below from the NHLBI.  And if you must give the obligatory tie, simply enhance your gift with the following information too.

Let Dad Know the Signs of a Heart Attack

This pocket-sized card gives brief reminders of heart attack warning signs, steps to take if symptoms occur, and the importance of acting quickly. Offers space to write in current medications and key phone numbers as an easy reference for both the patient and emergency care providers. Nice compact, affordable way to help dad protect his heart.  Give one to every important man in your life.

Give the Your Guide to Physical Activity and Your Heart Booklet

Did you know moderate physical activity on most days of the week reduces the risk of heart disease and can lower the chances of having a stroke, colon cancer, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes?  This easy-to-read guide is a wonderful tool to encourage dad to get 30 minutes of moderate physical activity most days of the week.  It can also help him maintain a healthy weight.

Once you’ve given the men in your life this booklet that helps develop a safe and effective activity program, the focus turns to staying active. Refer them to pages 37-38 for making physical activity an enjoyable, habitual part of life.
