Annual EHS Core Centers Meeting

Center Director's Meeting 2007

We look forward to hosting this year's meeting! Please come early, enjoy the beautiful Corvallis area, and take advantage of more informal time for face to face conversations and discussions.

HOTEL

Hotel reservations can be made at the Hilton Garden Inn in Corvallis by calling 541-752-5000 and requesting the “NIEHS Center Directors Conference” rate of $109 for a single or double. You may also make reservations on-line Exit NIEHS. Even if our reserved block of rooms is full, we recommend that you make reservations at this hotel, as it is located directly across the street from the meeting venue. We encourage you to make your hotel reservations early. For more information on the hotel, plus maps, driving directions, and shuttle services, see their website at http://hgicorvallis.com/.

We also have a block of rooms (“NIEHS Center Directors Conference”) reserved at the Holiday Inn Express in Corvallis, but this lodging is not within walking distance of the meeting. Conference rate is $99 for a single or double. Their phone number is 541-752-0800. TRAVEL

Portland Airport (PDX) is the major airport and is about a two-hour drive to Corvallis . The Hut Shuttle Exit NIEHS runs between PDX and Corvallis every 90 minutes. It goes directly to the Hilton Garden Inn for your convenience. The Hut Shuttle also runs between the smaller Eugene Airport (EUG), which is located about 40 minutes south of Corvallis.   You may also want to look into flying into Salem with Delta airlines. Salem airport is just 45 minutes north of Corvallis.

Rental cars are available at either airport. On the drive from either Portland or Eugene , there are many sights to see. For example, the Columbia River Gorge Exit NIEHS is 40 minutes from the Portland airport, and from either airport one can incorporate a scenic drive through the wine country Exit NIEHS or along the coast Exit NIEHS.

Sunday, Oct. 14th - Option 1: Full Day Newport Coast Trip($20/person)

Draft schedule
9am – Leave Hilton Garden Hotel Exit NIEHS
10:15 – 11:30 am - Hatfield Marine Science Center Exit NIEHS
11:30-12:30 pm – Lunch on your own in Newport’s Old Town on Yaquina Bay. Recommended:  Local Ocean and Mo’s Exit NIEHS

Afternoon options are flexible and include:

2:30 - 3 pm - All gather at the Rogue Brewery Exit NIEHSoptional tour (30 minutes) and tasting. 3:30 pm– Leave Brewery and return to Corvallis

Sunday, Oct. 14th - Option 2: Half Day Hike

Local Corvallis hike - highlights include great views and old growth forest habitat.

Moderately strenuous on fire roads with some trail. 7 miles.

noon - 4 p.m.

Other Things to See and Do:

Optional Sunday Dinner

Enjoy the downtown waterfront area, reconnect, and relax! This is an informal gathering at the Cloud 9 Restaurant and Bar Exit NIEHS for administrators, COEC, IHFC, and young investigators. The restaurant is open just for us! There will be appetizers and a no-host bar, and then a buffet dinner. After dinner, enjoy a stroll along the river path or go to another bar or dessert place for quiet conversation. Shuttles will be provided from the Hilton Garden Inn to downtown beginning at 5 pm. The mixer is from 5:30 - 9 pm.
