NIAID Continues to Increase Diversity in Its Laboratories When: February 48, 2007 Where: NIH Campus, Bethesda, MD Institute: National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) The NIAID Office of Training and Special Emphasis Programs (OTSEP) is proud to celebrate two anniversaries this year in support of its continued efforts to achieve a high level of diversity in NIAID’s intramural research program.
This February marks the fifth annual Intramural NIAID Research Opportunities (INRO) program, an exploratory program for academically superior minority students who have a strong interest in biomedical research. In its continuing effort to grow its diverse talent pool of outstanding biomedical researchers, NIAID has invited 22 undergraduate and graduate minority students from across the country to participate in INRO and glimpse firsthand the inner workings of the Institute. NIAID also celebrates its 10th year supporting students from minorities underrepresented in biomedical science professions. During the past 10 years, OTSEP has helped launch the careers of more than 100 promising trainees. To mark these special anniversaries, OTSEP is planning a celebratory training event for the graduates of the OTSEP sponsorship program in conjunction with its INRO program, to be held in February on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland.
