International Training and Research Program in Environmental and Occupational Health (ITREOH (http://www.fic.nih.gov/programs/training_grants/itreoh/index.htm) )The NIH Fogarty International Center’s (http://www.fic.nih.gov/) ITREOH program (http://www.fic.nih.gov/programs/training_grants/itreoh/index.htm) is designed to train foreign health scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists, toxicologists, engineers, industrial hygienists, chemists, and allied health workers from developing countries and emerging democracies in both general environmental health and occupational health. The NIEHS supports training grants through this program. Supplements to Support Research Capacity in Developing Nations (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/careers/research/trainingfrom/supplements/capacity.cfm)The NIEHS provides support for international postdoctoral fellows to perform research in a U.S. institution as a means of building research capacity in developing nations. This program provides supplemental research funding to existing grants to foster the career development of a foreign investigator in a developing country. Global Research Initiative Program for New Foreign Investigators (GRIP) – R01 (http://www.fic.nih.gov/programs/research_grants/grip/index.htm)The Global Research Initiative Program for New Foreign Investigators (GRIP) promotes productive re-entry of NIH-trained foreign investigators into their home countries as part of a broader program to enhance the scientific research infrastructure in developing countries, to stimulate research on a wide variety of high priority health-related issues in these countries, and to advance NIH efforts to address health issues of global import.
