Measuring Outcomes: Patient Reported Quality of Life and Functional Status Instruments


Description:
	Measuring patient reported outcomes—pain, fatigue, emotional distress, physical functioning, and social role participation—is often critical in evaluating the success of therapeutic interventions in clinical research. This class will provide an overview of the following resources for locating patient-reported quality of life and functional status instruments: PROQOLID (Patient Reported Outcome and Quality of Life Instruments Database), Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement, American Thoracic Society Quality of Life Resource, PROMIS (Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System), Health and Psychosocial Instruments, and CINAHL Plus.

Objectives:

The class will include both lecture and hands-on practice using databases and other web-based resources to assist in the selection of research instruments and how to find information concerning access, conditions of use, purpose, characteristics, languages, description, psychometric properties, and bibliographic references. Since hands-on practice will be emphasized, the class will be limited to 9 participants. A full-color training manual will be provided to each participant.
