1 . How do I create a new LISTSERV list?
Note: Only DHHS employees may request a new list.
1. Go to: http://list.nih.gov/
2. Click on the link labeled "Create a LISTSERV List"
3. Fill out the form and submit it
4. Your request will then be sent to the LISTSERV Administrators who will validate the request & create the new list. The new list's owner will receive an email from LISTSERV when the new list has been created. The new list can then be used.

2 . How do I subscribe to a LISTSERV list?
1. Create a new email message in your email application
2. In the To: field, enter: listserv@list.nih.gov.
3. Do not include any text in the Subject field. Do not use a signature line in the body of the message
4. In the body of the message, enter: subscribe name_of_list your_name
Example: subscribe list-123 John Doe
5. Send the message
6. If the list you are subscribing to has a "Welcome" message, then you will be sent an email from the list welcoming you. If the list is "closed", your subscription request will be sent to the list's owner(s) for approval.
NOTE: Some lists – such as the NIH-STAFF lists – you do not have to subscribe to. By just being an NIH employee, you will automatically be subscribed to the list. You cannot unsubscribe from these lists.

3 . How do I unsubscribe from a LISTSERV list?

  1. Create a new email message in your email application.

  2. In the To: field, enter: listserv@list.nih.gov.

  3. Do not include any text in the Subject field. Do not use a signature line in the body of the message.

  4. In the body of the message, enter: unsubscribe name_of_list (Example: unsubscribe list-123).

  5. Send the message.

  6. If the list you are subscribing to has a "Farewell" message, then you will be sent an email from the list wishing you farewell. If the list is "closed", your unsubscribe request will be sent to the list's owner(s) for approval.

NOTE: You are signed up automatically for the NIH-Staff list. You cannot unsubscribe from it.

4 . How do I change the LISTSERV email/subscriber address?
How do I change the email/subscriber address I am subscribed with?

1. Go to: http://list.nih.gov/
2. Click on "For General Users"
3. Click on "Change My Subscriber Address"
4. Fill out the form and click the SUBMIT button
NOTE: Make sure that you enable/click on the radio button labeled "Yes" under the heading "Is your new address working yet?"
NOTE: Unless you only want to change the email address a specific list emails you at, it is recommended that you change your subscriber address for all lists – to do that, enter an asterisk (*) in the List Name field.
5. You will receive an email from LISTSERV asking you to confirm that you meant to change your subscriber address.
6. Reply to the message with the word OK at the top of the message. The LISTSERV Administrators will then process your address change request. You may receive further email messages confirming that your subscriber address has been changed

5 . How do I create a LISTSERV password?
When attempting to view a list's archives, I am prompted to enter my ListServ password. How do I create one?

1. Go to: http://list.nih.gov/
2. Click on "For General Users"
3. Click on "Create a LISTSERV Password"
4. Fill out the form and click on the "Create Password" button

NOTE: Make sure that you enter the email address you subscribed to the list with.

5. You will receive an email from LISTSERV asking you to confirm your password. There will be a link in the email message, just click on it to process the confirmation.
6. You are now able to login to LISTSERV to view the list's archives.
