Even though malaria was virtually eradicated in the United States, approximately 1,200 cases a year are diagnosed. These people usually get malaria during trips to other areas of the world.
A new booklet titled Understanding Malaria: Fighting an Ancient Scourge has been published by NIAID. The publication provides a broad range of general information about malaria, from cause to treatments to genome sequencing, along with helpful illustrations.
