NCICB partnerships are based on the collaborative development and/or adoption of interoperable infrastructure and applications. Some illustrative examples include:
- The Center supports NCI-funded research initiatives, such as the I2
Imaging Project, the Mouse Models of Human Cancers Consortium (MMHCC), the Cancer Laboratory Information Management System (caLIMS) and the Cancer Genome Anatomy Project (CGAP).
- NCICB and the NCI Office of Communications have a joint project,
Enterprise Vocabulary Services, that develops and provides terminology resources and services for NCI and the cancer community.
NCICB leadership and staff participate on strategic committees and task forces inside and outside to facilitate integration, harmonization and interoperability, and to share lessons learned.
- NCICB senior staff have played key roles in activities related to
the President's health informatics agenda, including committees convened by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, and the Workgroup on the National Health Information Infrastructure of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics.
- NCICB is working with NIH's National Electronic Clinical Trials and
Research (NECTAR) Network and the Trans-NIH Informatics Committee to promote interoperable research networks spanning multiple health challenges.
- NCICB is closely involved in the standards development organizations
Health Level 7 (HL7) and the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium
(CDISC) to influence and harmonize data exchange standards development activities.
- NCICB participates in Connecting For Health, a public-private
collaborative organization of more than 100 participants that addresses the policy, technical, and legal barriers to establishing an interconnected health information infrastructure.
