Bio of Shizhe Steve Li, PhD

Back to staff.

Dr. Shizhe Steve Li is a staff scientist in the Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Core. He received his BS in Physics at Tsinghua University in 1982 and his PhD in Physics at The City University of New York in 1992. He did postdoctoral training at Hershey Medical Center of Penn State University and later became a research associate there. In 1997, he joined GE Medical Systems as an RF engineer and became an RF project engineer. In 2000, he joined IGC-Medical Advances Inc. leading the Applied Science Laboratory with an adjunct appointment of Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He became a staff scientist in NIMH in 2002.

Research Interests
Dr. Lis research area has been focused on electromagnetic field behavior in magnetic resonance imaging and technique development of RF coils and gradient coils. As a staff scientist of the MRS Core, he has been focused on in vivo carbon-13 MRS techniques for animal and human brain MRS studies in brain energy metabolism, glutanatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission.
