Laboratory Animal Science Section - (LASS)
(1) Provides services to intramural researchers for all phases of laboratory animal experimentation;
(2) advises staff regarding practices of proper housing, handling, use, surveillance and health care of research animals to ensure compliance with DHHS and USDA guidelines and AAALAC guidelines;
(3) manages animal care facilities in order to maximize the use of animals, animal room space, and animal care resources;
(4) implements and coordinates animal disease prevention, health monitoring, disease investigation and disease treatment; and
(5) provides for the training of animal care personnel.
