    This new page announces the funding opportunities and areas of encouraged research in the broad areas of cancer symptom management and palliative care at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other National Institute of Health (NIH) Institutes and Centers. These announcements are coordinated through NCI’s Palliative Care Working Group to help the research community locate these announcements all in one place.

  • Booklet Guides School Personnel in Helping Students With Diabetes Succeed

    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) has produced a comprehensive guide about managing diabetes at school. Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed: A Guide for School Personnel is designed to educate and inform school personnel about diabetes; how it is currently managed; and how parents, students, and each member of the school staff,can work together to ensure a safe learning environment and equal access to educational opportunities for all students with diabetes.

  • "More on Cochlear Implants" Plain Language Fact Sheet for the Public

    This fact sheet answers questions about cochlear implants related to their effectiveness as a way to provide a new kind of hearing aid for individuals who have lost or severely damaged the sensitive hair cells necessary for normal hearing.

  • "They Said It Couldn't Be Done" Booklet Details the Science, Improved Quality of Life, and Cost-Effectiveness of Cochlear Implants

    An new brochure, They Said It Couldn't Be Done, addresses the needs of potential and current cochlear implant users as well as their families, and medical and health professionals. It describes how basic, clinical, and translational science are interrelated. The brochure also gives a brief analysis of the cost-savings over a lifetime, per child with cochlear implants, giving additional information to schools and health providers.

Kidney Disease, Diabetes, Hypertension, and Minority Health

  • "You Have the Power to Prevent Kidney Disease" Video Aims to Prevent Renal Failure
    Format: Video
    Institute: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)

    The NKDEP's You Have the Power to Prevent Kidney Disease educational video is a four-minute documentary, designed as a "continuous feed" for dialysis centers, meetings of voluntary and professional organizations, and health fairs in four pilot cities: Baltimore, Atlanta, Cleveland, and Jackson, Mississippi. More

    The video will be disseminated by NKDEP's pilot sites and shown primarily in dialysis units, not in the mass media.
