Loan Repayment Program

NIH Extramural Loan Repayment Programs

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Extramural Loan Repayment Programs are designed to attract health professionals to careers in clinical, pediatric, health disparities, or contraceptive and infertility research. They offer up to $35,000 per year to repay student loans of scientists, physicians, dentists, and other doctoral level health professionals willing to commit to a career in clinical, pediatric, health disparities or contraception and infertility research. Applicants must be citizens, nationals or permanent residents of the United States; be engaged in qualifying research activities; and commit to spend at least 50% of their time for two years conducting the approved research service.
