Karl M. Johnson will present a free lecture for the public on the history of and the need for biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) research, which involves some of the world’s potentially most dangerous microbes.

As a former research scientist at NIAID, Dr. Johnson contributed to the discovery of several viruses causing acute respiratory diseases. He is currently an adjunct professor of medicine and biology at the University of New Mexico.

Following Dr. Johnson’s talk, there will be a brief slide presentation of NIAID’s new Integrated Research Facility and BSL-4 research space at Rocky Mountain Laboratories.

The lecture will take place at the Hamilton Performing Arts Center of Hamilton High School located at 327 Fairgrounds Road in Hamilton, Montana.
