May Lectures Will Address Evolution and Medicine

When: May 3, noon to 2 p.m., May 10, noon to 2 p.m., May 24 and May 31, 2006
Where: NIH Campus, Building 45, Natcher, Balcony B, Bethesda, MD
Institute: National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), Office of Science Education (OSE)

A new lecture series, Evolution and Medicine, will include one-hour presentations by noted scientists from a variety of major research institutions. Each will speak on evolution as it applies to a specific area of science. An hour of informal discussion will follow each lecture.

The presenters and topics are as follows:
• May 3—Evolution and Development, Rudolf Raff, Indiana University
• May 10—Evolution and Education, Brian Alters, McGill University
• May 24—Evolution and Genomics, Eric Green, NHGRI
• May 31—Evolution and Infectious Diseases, Robin Bush, University of California, Irvine

The series is presented by the NIGMS, OSE, and NHGRI. The lectures are open to all NIH employees and to the public.

You may attend any of the lectures on the NIH campus at no cost. Visitors to the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, should bring a photo ID and allow additional time for security procedures.
