An Overview of the National Diabetes Education Program

Founded in 1997, the National Diabetes Education Program is a partnership of the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that involves public and private partners in efforts to improve the treatment and outcomes for people with diabetes, promote early diagnosis, and prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. NDEP offers a wide range of copyright-free resources that can be used to reach out to people with diabetes, people at risk, and health care professionals. Consumer materials are tailored for groups at high risk for diabetes—older adults, African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and women with a history of gestational diabetes and their children. Order or download free materials in English, Spanish, and 15 Asian and Pacific Islander languages. NDEP also has an online Spanish-language publications catalog.
