NIAID's standard operating procedures (SOP) spell out roles and actions for initiatives, grants, contracts, review, and Council activities for the following purposes:
- Define roles for key extramural functions and provide the tools needed to do the job.
- Build and make explicit our knowledge base for staff and the extramural community.
- Codify procedures and practices through a continuing dialogue with all parties involved.
SOPs briefly describe a topic's purpose, give staff contact information, and provide procedures to follow, usually including staff and investigator roles. Focusing on steps to accomplish a task, SOPs give links to more detailed background information on policy and regulations.
Navigating the SOPs
- To locate a topic alphabetically, go to Find It! A-Z.
- For a list of SOPs by topic, see Extramural SOPs.
- Click on glossary links (words in blue, not underlined) if you are unfamiliar with a term, or go to the NIAID Glossary of Funding and Policy Terms and Acronyms.
- A few SOPs describe roles for NIAID staff only and not for extramural researchers. They are not viewable outside NIAID, and links to these SOPs are marked with a icon.
- Contact information for staff members are for internal use only, so they are labelled as Contact for NIAID Staff.
