ACHP Winter Business Meeting
The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will gather for its winter business meeting on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 9 a.m. The meeting will be at the Library of Congress, Thomas Jefferson Building, Congressional Members Room, 10 First Street, SE. The public is invited to attend.

St. Elizabeths Programmatic Agreement Signed
December 9, 2008—The General Services Administration, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and others executed a Programmatic Agreement for the redevelopment of the St. Elizabeths West Campus, which is part of the St. Elizabeths National Historic Landmark (NHL). Section 106 consultation involved many local organizations and groups that were interested in this project, due to the historic significance of the NHL. Read more here.

ACHP Issues Program Comments for DoD
November 14, 2008—At the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) quarterly business meeting today, the ACHP issued Program Comments, pursuant to 36 CFR 800.14(e), for the Department of Defense setting forth how it will comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act when rehabilitating exterior building elements that are character-defining features of historic properties. Nelson Named Director of Office of Federal Agency Programs
December 10--The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation announced today the selection of Reid J. Nelson as the new director of the agency's Office of Federal Agency Programs, which deals primarily with the Section 106 process. Nelson, currently an assistant director in the Office of Federal Agency Programs, will replace current Director Don Klima in January following Klima's retirement. Read the press release here.

 

 

Nationwide Programmatic Agreement Streamlines 106 Process for NPS
November 14, 2008—At the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) quarterly business meeting today, the National Park Service (NPS), National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers, and the ACHP signed a Nationwide Programmatic Agreement to further integrate historic property stewardship into NPS policies, among other aspects. The ACHP Announces Landmark Publication
Just released from the ACHP's Native American Program: "Consultation with Indian Tribes in the Section 106 Process: A Handbook" is a groundbreaking publication containing step-by-step guidance for the Section 106 practitioner. The handbook will help federal agencies understand tribal concerns and offer guidance on effective and efficient participation in tribal consultation. Download the handbook here. ACHP Issues Comments on Shooting Range
November 3, 2008--Due to the cultural importance of Boundary Cone Butte to American Indian tribes, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation today recommended that a proposed shooting range be located at another site to mitigate adverse effects to the historic locale.
