Research Advocates Learn How Peer Review Works When: November 7, 2005 Where: Washington, DC Institute: Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) In an effort to clarify the mystifying process of how grants are approved and funded at the NIH, NICHD staff developed and presented an interactive seminar on peer review for members of the Friends of NICHD.
The presentation was held at the American Psychological Association in Washington, DC, in conjunction with the twice-annual meeting of the Friends of NICHD, a coalition of advocacy organizations that supports the work of NICHD. In addition to an overview of the approval process and explanation of the varying roles in review, more than 35 attendees participated in a mock review session, scoring and voting on a grant application.
