VIEW:
The Deep South Network for Cancer Control used the Community Health Advisor model and other proven colation-building methods to create an infrastructure for increasing cancer awareness. The project focused on two poor rural areas (the "Black Belt" of Alabama and the Delta area of Mississippi) and two urban areas (Jefferson County in Alabama and the Hattiesburg/Laurel area in Mississippi). The Network's accomplishments in stimulating community-based research include the Deep South Institute for Cancer Control, Minority Training Program, and Developmental Research Program.
