Donations to the National Institute on Drug Abuse

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), supports over 85% of the world's research on the health aspects of drug abuse and addiction. As part of NIH, NIDA receives its funding through congressional appropriations. However, NIDA is also authorized to accept donations to support its research activities. Donations are deposited into a special account to help support Institute programs to better understand the causes and consequences of drug use, to develop improved treatments and preventions, and to increase awareness among the public and health professionals to reduce the terrible toll of this disease on affected individuals, their family and friends.

Donation checks or money orders should be made payable to the
National Institute on Drug Abuse and sent to:

NIDA Planning and Financial Management Branch
6001 Executive Boulevard, Room 5102
Bethesda, Maryland 20892
USA

The telephone number for donation inquiries is 301-443-6627. Please note on the check/money order or a cover note that the donation is to be used to support the mission of the NIDA. If a contribution is made in memory or honor of someone, please indicate a name and address of the individual to whom an acknowledgement can be sent if you would like NIDA to do so. Dollar amounts are not included in the letter of acknowledgement.

NIDA is a Federal Agency of the United States Government and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt under 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3). Contributions to the NIDA are tax-deductible pursuant to 26 U.S.C. 170. Potential donors should, however, consult with their tax advisors.
