Mouse Metabolism Core Laboratory - (MMCL)

Oksana Gavrilova, Ph.D.

The mission of Mouse Metabolism Core Laboratory is to providing the NIDDK scientific community with standardized, high quality metabolic and physiologic phenotyping services for mouse models of diabetes, obesity and other related metabolic disorders. Full service procedures include: generation of transgenic mice, indirect calorimetry to measure metabolic rate, body composition analysis using NMR Minispec, euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamps, fatty acid oxidation in skeletal muscle and isolation of pancreatic islets. We also perform glucose tolerance test, insulin tolerance test, triglyceride clearance test, in vivo triglyceride secretion, in vivo BMIPP (fatty acid) uptake, serum analysis (glucose, triglyceride, free fatty acids, insulin, C-peptide, leptin, adiponectin, glucagon), tissue analysis for triglyceride and glycogen, measure food intake and body temperature. In addition to services, we provide training sessions for postdoctoral fellows interested in learning these techniques.
