Dr. Matsumoto earned his Ph.D. in Neurobiology at the University of California at Riverside and conducted postdoctoral work at the State University of New York Medical Center in Brooklyn and the New York State Brain Institute. His research has focused on the sensory system and neural injury and regeneration. Dr. Matsumoto was a faculty member in the Department of Anatomy at Howard University (Washington, DC), and then became an SRA within the National Cancer Institute.  Dr. Matsumoto joined the NIDDK Review Branch in 1989 and has served on various NIDDK and trans-NIH committees and groups that focused on improving review activities.
