Multifactor Screener: Computed Variables
The computed diet variables for the 2000 NHIS Multifactor
Screener are available for download in two formats -- SAS transport and
comma-separated values (CSV). The files include the following variables:
- Pyramid servings of fruits and vegetables
- Adjusted Pyramid servings of fruits and vegetables
- Pyramid servings of fruits and vegetables excluding French fries
- Adjusted Pyramid servings of fruits and vegetables excluding French fries
- Fiber (gm)
- Adjusted fiber (gm)
- Percent energy from fat
- Adjusted percent energy from fat
- Household serial number (HHX)
- Family serial number (FMX)
- Person number (PX)
The datasets are sorted in ascending order by the ID variables HHX, FMX,
and PX. All numeric variables have been rounded to the nearest 0.000001.
Comma-separated Values File

(1 MB) - This zip file contains the comma-separated values file, which
includes 11 variables, 32,374 records, and an additional record for the
variable names.
SAS Transport File
dietvars.2004_03_30.v8x.zip
(1 MB) - The SAS transport file includes 32,374 records and 11 variables.
To access the SAS dataset, unzip the file, then use proc cimport. For
example:
proc cimport file='dietvars.2004_03_30.v8x' data=dietvars;
