NIH REGIONAL SEMINAR IN PROGRAM FUNDING AND GRANTS ADMINISTRATION
A regional seminar covering topics related to National Institutes of Health extramural program funding and grants administration has been scheduled for Thursday and Friday, July 9-10, 1998, in Salt Lake City, Utah. This seminar, hosted by the University of Utah, is designed to attract participants from the inter-mountain/western region, although interested individuals from other regions are welcome to attend. Individuals from small and minority educational institutions, for-profit research organizations, hospitals, universities and medical centers are encouraged to attend. The two-day seminar will feature both plenary and break-out sessions in order to provide information of interest to academic researchers, scientists, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and both new and senior research administrators.
Plenary session topics include: Scientific Peer Review; Development of Institute Program Priorities and Funding Plans; Electronic Research Administration; Research Integrity, Intellectual Property, and Financial Conflict of Interest under Federal Grants; and Project Monitoring. Break-out sessions will be held on the following topics: NIH Reinvention Initiatives; Preparation of the Research Plan; NIH Fundamentals Workshop for New Administrators; Pre-award Administration; Funding Opportunities for New Investigators; Current Issues in Research Administration; Clinical Trials; National Library of Medicine Programs; Open Session for Senior Researchers; Mock Study Section Review; and Compliance Issues.

Room reservations should be made directly with the University Park Hotel and Suites. A block of rooms has been reserved for seminar participants at a rate of $95 per night, single or double occupancy. Participants should reference the NIH Regional Seminar when you call. Reservations must be made by June 17 in order to receive the negotiated conference room rate.
Registration Fee: $145
The registration fee will cover continental breakfast and lunch on Thursday and Friday, a reception on Thursday evening, and all seminar materials. Checks or purchase orders made out to the University of Utah will be accepted for payment.

FUTURE SEMINARS
This is the only NIH regional seminar planned for fiscal year 1998. One or two seminars will be held in fiscal year 1999. Although the location of the 1999 seminar(s) has yet to be decided, it is likely that one seminar will be held in the eastern/mid-atlantic region. No separate mailing list is maintained for the regional seminars. Information on upcoming regional seminars will be published in the NIH Guide and on the NIH Grants Policy home page as it becomes available.
