Outcomes Research in Children with Hearing Loss, held December 12–13, 2006, focused on the needs and design considerations for future research that measures how well children with hearing loss progress after receiving treatment. In addition to discussing such outcomes as hearing, speech, and language capabilities, the participants discussed factors influencing the child as a whole, such as family, cultural, demographic, and individual child characteristics.
Participants included scientists from universities and research facilities across the country as well as representatives of federal agencies, including the National Institute on Child Health and Human Development (NICHD); Office of the Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services; U.S. Department of Education; Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality; Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and Maternal and Child Health Bureau.
