House Conservatives Encourage Leadership to Keep Pork Out of the "Emergency" Supplemental
May 10, 2006
Over 30 Members of the House have issued a letter to the Republican Leadership encouraging them to hold the line against the ballooning "emergency" supplemental being ironed out by Senate and House negotiators. While the House version's price tag is in line with the President's request, the Senate's version contains an additional $14 billion in pork-barrel spending. The letter singles out "one particularly egregious earmark" that would give the state of Mississippi $700 million to move a railroad that was recently repaired for $250 million following Hurricane Katrina.
