Wendy McLaughlin

Wendy McLaughlin, MPA, is a Public Health Advisor in the Office of the Associate Director of the Applied Research Program. Areas of focus include health services research, delivery systems research, quality of care research, risk factor monitoring and methods, patient experiences of care, and patient-centered communication. She supports research initiatives including the Cancer Research Network, and is the contracts and budget coordinator for the program. Ms. McLaughlin participates in the NIH Health Literacy working group and the National Cancer Institute Extramural Advisory Board.

Ms. McLaughlin completed the Presidential Management Fellowship program at NIH in 2004. She completed assignments with the National Children's Study at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development; the Community Outreach and Education Program at the National Institute of Mental Health; and the Child, Adolescent, and Family Branch at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration; and worked with the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation Office at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. These assignments focused on furthering public health partnerships, conducting outreach and education activities, policy research, budget analysis, and social marketing.

Prior to coming to NIH, Ms. McLaughlin worked in direct practice in social work with families and communities in nonprofit organizations. She completed her Master of Public Affairs at Indiana University's Center on Philanthropy, with a concentration on nonprofit management training and her Master of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, with a concentration on mental health and children and families. Ms. McLaughlin received her BS with honors in psychology from Indiana University in Bloomington.
