CLINICAL CENTER NURSING |

In February and March 2007, Nursing and Patient Care Services launched a four year
strategic plan to strengthen nursing practice and contributions to clinical research at
the Clinical Center. This plan, named “Clinical Research Nursing 2010,” was defined
by a new vision statement in which we clarified our national role in defining and
documenting nursing practice in clinical research. This vision immediately captured
the imaginations of nursing leadership, and resulted in 8 charter projects for 2007.
Teams were formed to address key issues that either had come forward from the
clinical staff as important priorities, or had been identified as recommendations
during the Nursing Operational Review. All leadership, including staff leaders were
assigned to a team. Team leaders were selected for their perspective and expertise,
including people new to the Clinical Center who brought a fresh viewpoint.
Each team had an executive sponsor and used a structured set of tools, activities
and resources to support team function. The CRN 2010 Teams, as they came to
be called, were launched in March 2007, and reported out their final results and
findings in December 2007. As the CRN 2010 initiative continued into 2008 we
once again had 8 teams; some continuations from 2007 as well as newly formed
teams and objectives.
