Biography

Dr. Ihor J. Masnyk was born in Ukraine on September 17, 1930. Dr. Masnyk earned his B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1953. He then went on to get a M.S. in Organic Chemistry in 1958, and was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1962. Dr. Masnyk served in the U.S. Army Active Duty Service from 1955 to 1957. He then served in the U.S. Army Active Reserve Duty between 1957 and 1985. Dr. Masnyk served as a Retired Reserve from 1985-1990, before retiring as a Colonel in 1991. Dr. Masnyk has been employed at the National Cancer Institute since 1962. He served as the Associate Director (Acting) for the Office of International Affairs. In 1999, he was appointed as the U.S. Chornobyl Projects Director to oversee the Chornobyl Research Project.
