Larissa Korde, M.D., M.P.H.

Biography

Dr. Korde received her B.A. from the College of William and Mary in 1992, and her M.D. from New York Medical College in 1998.  In addition, she holds a masters degree in public health from the George Washington University (2003).  Dr. Korde completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center (1998-2001), and her Medical Oncology fellowship at the National Cancer Institute (2001-2004).  She is also a recent graduate of the NCI’s Cancer Prevention Fellowship program.  She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.  Dr. Korde joined the Clinical Genetics Branch of the NCI Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics in October 2005.  She is involved in a number of epidemiologic and clinical studies aimed at better understanding familial cancer syndromes.

Research Interests

Dr. Korde’s research interests include lifestyle factors and their effect on cancer risk, the identification of intermediate endpoints for cancer prevention trials, and designing intervention trials for populations at increased risk for certain cancers.  Her current projects include a multidisciplinary etiologic study of familial testicular cancer, a pilot study of physical activity in a breast cancer population, and an analysis of soy intake and measures of acculturation and their effect on breast cancer risk in Asian American women.  She is also a member of the Gynecologic Oncology Group, and is involved in a number of studies that relate to women at increased risk for breast and ovarian cancer based on a genetic or familial predisposition.
