These guidelines are to inform candidates wishing to exhibit in the Clinical Center Galleries at the National Institutes of Health of the following: eligibility, process of submission, insurance, sales, security and storage.The Clinical Center Galleries (CCG) consists of five wall galleries and three sculpture cases. Exhibitions run for eight weeks. All artwork submitted is reviewed for its suitability for the hospital environment.
Submission

Notification
Artists will be notified by mail. If accepted, an acceptance letter, contract and parking information will be sent. If declined, a letter to that effect will be sent. All slides will be returned. Other written material will be on file in the CCG office for future reference. The review process may take from two to four months. Galleries are scheduled approximately one and a half years in advance.CCG responsibilities
- Specify dates of exhibition
- Select gallery space
- Design and security-install the exhibit
- Distribute artist's announcements to CCG mailing list
- Produce gallery list and price list
- Donate 20% commission from all sold work to the Patient Emergency Fund
- Transact all sales and pay artists (80% of purchase price) within 60 days of the close of the exhibit.
Exhibitors responsibilities
- Preparing artwork for hanging, including suitable framing
- Transporting artwork to and from the gallery (artists outside the Metropolitan Washington Area are responsible for all shipping costs to and from NIH)
- Providing a list of artwork to be delivered which includes the retail prices.
- Paying for all invitations and announcements.
- Providing photographs or scanned images of several works six weeks prior to the exhibit
- Providing artist statement six weeks prior to the exhibit
If the artist is interested in having a reception, it is the artists' financial responsibility. The CCG office will provide tables, table clothes, and a punch bowl. The time and date of the reception must be cleared through the CCG office (Crystal Parmele, 301-402-0115) to avoid any conflicts with other activities taking place in the Clinical Center. Alcohol can not be served, as it is not permitted on Federal Government property.
Removal of art work at the close of an exhibition
Due to limited storage space all artwork needs be removed from the gallery on the date specified in the contract. The CCG can not be held responsible for any work left on the premises after the close of the exhibition.Insurance
The Clinical Center Galleries is part of the Federal Government and can not insure any work. All work is installed with a security device that attaches to the frame (see contract for framing specifications) and the NIH police are on duty twenty-four hours a day in the Clinical Center. Sculpture is exhibited in plexi-glass cases that are secured. All possible care is taken to protect work on display. The CCG cannot be held responsible or liable in any way for loss or damage.Agreement
