Grants Closeout (Commons) @ NIH
Policy requires three reports to properly close out a grant:
- Final Financial Status Report (FSR), which must indicate
the exact balance of unobligated funds and may not reflect any unliquidated
obligations
- Final Invention Statement and Certification, which must list all inventions
that were conceived or first actually reduced to practice during the
course of work under the project or document “None” when
applicable. The grantee must submit this report whether or not
the funded project results in any subject inventions, and whether or
not inventions were previously reported.
- Final Progress Report, which should address the following:
- A statement of progress toward the originally stated aims;
- A list of all significant results, both positive and negative;
- A list of publications, if any, resulting from the project;
- A report on the inclusion of gender and minority study subjects; and
- A description of any data, research materials or other information that is available to be shared with other researchers;
The final Financial Status Report must be submitted electronically through the eRA Commons. Grantees are strongly encouraged to submit the final Invention Statement and Certification and the final Progress Report through the Commons.
Within NIH, Closeout is becoming a centralized process managed by the Division of Extramural Activities Support (DEAS).
