Special Populations Networks (SPN)

Launched in April 2000, the Special Populations Networks (SPN) program awarded 18 five-year cooperative agreements designed to reach major racial/ethnic minority populations, including African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asians, and Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders and other underserved populations. The goal of the SPN program was to build robust and sustainable infrastructures within minority and underserved communities to promote cancer awareness, and foster community-based research and training of minority junior researchers in prevention and cancer control research. This program ended in March 2005 and has now transitioned to the Community Networks Program (CNP).
