Yue Wang, M.D., Ph.D., Head Electrophysiology Facility Laboratory of Neurosciences |
Overview: The Neuroscience Electrophysiology Facility provides services and technical support for all research sections in the Laboratory of Neurosciences. State-of-the-art electrophysiological technologies (multi-electrode field potential and patch-clamp recording) in brain slices and cultured neurons from mice and rats are employed to investigate the molecular and biophysical mechanisms of synaptic function and plasticity. These methods are applied to elucidate mechanisms of learning and memory in the contexts of normal brain aging and age-related neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. In addition, electrophysiological analyses of synaptic function are used to evaluate the efficacy of novel pharmacological and dietary interventions for the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders. |
Biography: Dr. Wang received his M.D. degree from the University of Zurich and Ph.D. from Trinity College in Dublin. His postdoctoral research in the areas of neurophysiology and synaptic plasticity was performed at the University of Maryland and the National Institute on Aging.
