NHGRI Employee Recognition and Awards Program
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) believes that it is
important to recognize and reward employees for a job well done. To
enhance the ability of supervisors to recognize and reward those
employees who are performing in an exceptional manner and making
outstanding contributions, the Institute has developed the NHGRI
Employee Recognition & Awards Program. The NIH and NHGRI have a
two-tiered (acceptable/unacceptable) performance management system;
there is no direct link between the annual performance rating of an
employee and the awards system; however, it is NHGRI policy that
performance based awards/bonuses be awarded, where determined to be
appropriate, following the end of the year employee performance review.
The purpose of this program is to recognize and reward fairly and
equitably individuals and groups for excellence in service to the
overall mission of NHGRI and to the mission of its individual
components. This program provides various means of demonstrating,
through monetary and non-monetary recognition, the high value NHGRI sets
on employee contributions and achievements that enhance organizational
performance, support organizational goals and objectives, and improve
organizational quality. Eligibility under this program varies with the
type of award. Awards may be given to individuals or groups. Employees
are eligible to receive more than one award annually; however, employees
should not receive more than one monetary award for the same activity.
