Notice Number: NOT-OD-05-059

Key Dates
Release Date: August 2, 2005

Update: The following update relating to this announcement has been issued:

Issued by
National Institutes of Health (NIH), (http://www.nih.gov)

This notice is addressed to successful applicants seeking competing support for Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) T32 institutional training program funding in Fiscal Year 2006 (October 1, 2005 - September 30, 2006).

Due to the rising costs for tuition, fees, and health insurance that are anticipated to exceed available funds in FY 2006, successful applicants seeking T32 competing renewal support (Type 2) will receive funding to offset tuition, fees, and health insurance costs per trainee at the level of support provided to that program during the previous budget (Type 5) year. Successful new T32 applications (Type 1) will receive funding to offset tuition, fees, and health insurance costs utilizing the current formula as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement ( 12/03) http://grants.nih.gov/grants/policy/nihgps_2003/NIHGPS_Part10.htm#_Toc54600187.

Future out-year support for FY 2006 competing awards will be subject to appropriate funding principles at the time of award. This action is intended to prevent a significant reduction of NRSA training positions in FY 2006.

The current NIH policy for offsetting expenses for tuition, fees, and health insurance was established in FY 1996 and will be re-examined and updated for FY 2007 awards.

All applicants are reminded to itemize tuition, individual fees, and medical insurance in the application at their full cost. Any adjustment will be made by the NIH awarding component at the time of award.
