Method And System For Measuring The Diffusion Tensor And For Diffusion Tensor Imaging
Description of Invention:
This application describes a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) modality. Specifically, this is a method and a system for measuring the diffusion tensor of water (or of metabolites) in each voxel, and for generating images related to the diffusion tensor, such as of the Trace of the diffusion tensor, which has been useful in Stroke assessment. The noninvasive imaging method also furnishes parameters that characterize the degree of diffusion anisotropy or directional bias of diffusion, as well as the fiber orientation of living tissues such as nerves and muscles. Measurements of the diffusion tensor may also be used for precisely aligning and calibrating the magnetic field gradients of the NMR apparatus itself.
