H.R. 3513Elder Fall Prevention Act
On November 18, 2003, Representative Frank Pallone (D-NJ) introduced H.R. 3513, the Elder Fall
Prevention Act. The bill would: 1) establish public and professional education programs on ways of
reducing the risk of elder falls, and preventing repeat falls; 2) provide grants to qualified organizations to
carry out educational programs; and 3) direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to expand
and intensify research and related activities concerning elder falls. Appropriations would be authorized
for FY 2004 through FY 2006 for the following purposes: $5 million annually for the national public
education provisions; $4 million annually for state public education campaigns; $5 million annually for
professional and educational campaigns; and $5 million annually for research projects H.R. 3513 was
referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
